Spring Roofing Checklist

Spring Roofing Checklist

Spring is knocking on our doors, thankfully! When planning your spring cleaning be sure to include your roof. Follow Royalty Roofing’s spring roofing checklist to walk you through.

Inside -> Out

Begin by checking your attic for leaks, stains, or excessive light coming through. Most importantly, your attic should be dry! Another thing to be sure and look for is mold and mildew. A healthy roofing system begins from the inside and not taking proper care will hinder its ability to protect your home from the outside conditions.

General Inspection

Once the inside has been inspected make your way outside. You may notice shingles are damaged or faded which can lead to needing repair or replacement. Likewise, flashings on your roof need a thorough inspection. If you are unsure what a flashing is check out our article “What is a roof flashing?” to help better understand.

Tree Branches & Debris

During your outdoor inspection, if you notice debris and/or tree branches laying on your roof it is important to clear them off. Trees are dormant in the winter months, this causes leaves and branches to momentarily slow growth. Spring makes a great time to trim back trees that could cause threat to your roof’s integrity in the future.

Gutters

Clogged gutters can be a great hassle for the health of your roof. So, be sure you clean out all debris that has clogged your gutters by using a ladder and hose to see that water is able to flow through properly. While cleaning your gutters, examine their condition. Gutters that are damaged appear to have cracks, holes, rust, broken fasteners, or pulling away from the roof and need to be repaired or replaced right away.

Just remember, winter weather is harsh on your roof and you should follow the spring roofing checklist to prepare for the changing seasons. If you feel a replacement or repair is needed give Royalty Roofing a call at 800-303-8392 for your free estimate or fill out this form
